Show 1 MILFORD RAILROAD MEN TO SHARE IN 'BACK PAY' BONANZA Approximately $4,500,000 in ; back pay wi'l go to engineers, firemen and conductors on the I Union Pacific Railroad as a re-i re-i suit of the settlement of the three-year-old rail wage dispute. Announcement of the settlement touched off the gigantic task of computing the retroactive pay for the several thousand employes em-ployes involved at the railroad's headquarters in Omaha. Some idea pf the prob'em involved in-volved was given by a railroad official who pointed out that it means ref iguring the time allowances al-lowances of each employe for a 20-month period, part of the adjustment ad-justment dating back to Oct. 1, 1950. Another feature that will add to the burden of the work, he said, is the necessity of computing com-puting the proper amount of federal income taxes to be withheld with-held from each employe's check. Lump sum payments will be made to those employes receiving receiv-ing back pay, and special efforts are being made by the railroad to release the checks at the earliest ear-liest practicable date. Mr. and Mrs. Jerald McDermott McDer-mott enjoyed a short vacation trip to California, returning to Milford Monday. |
