By Arlene Gale Jefferson Mercantile Company, one of the oldest businesses in Milford and owned by Mr. George Jefferson, was founded Sept. 5, 1905, by Mr. Jefferson's father. Although its location has never changed, the building has. The building which stands there today was built during World War I. There are three departments in the store. Mr. Jefferson has owned the land on which the store rests since he was 18 years of age.
