Show EDITORIAL Appearances do count With the coming of the 24th of July comes the sound of band music from the high school as the band prepares to march in the annual Fiesta Days celebration parade in Spanish Fork. Normally these sounds bring a stir of pride in the hearts of local citizenry knowing that once again our band will represent proudly the high school and the community. However, following the Art City Days parade and the Fourth of July parade in Provo, this pride has become tarnished with the appearance of the band. It isn't that the band is so small; other schools have small numbers but they manage to look good in a parade. It's the dress of our band that looks shabby. Certainly the band master, Carl Barton, ought to be able to take the time to issue the uniforms which the people of Springville and Mapleton have purchased. If this uniform uni-form is too hot, perhaps the uniform trousers and caps might be worn with the fellows wearing white shirts and the girls wearing a plain white blouse. At any rate this newspaper feels the band master for the summer, and paid full salary during the season, should be able to find the time to accomplish this task, that the band might look like a professional marching unit and be something we can all be proud of. |
