Show Races announced, results listed Nathan Eden, No. 28, Santa-quin, Santa-quin, in the third spot. Jack Dawson came in first place in the C Class Main Event. Martin Strong, No. 66, Springville, finished second and Elmo Lee No. 9, third. Points are given throughout the year for finishing first, second, or third in the B Class and C Class races and Nathan Eden car No. 38 was high point man for the B Class going go-ing into the main event and Jim Nathan No. 76 was three points behind. Finishing the race were Jim Norman, No. 76, first place and George Merlin, No. 6, second and Nathan Eden finishing third which put Jim Norman on top for the midseason championship in the B Class and Roger Carter was way out front in points in the C Class. Trophies for the championship will be awarded at the races Saturday night. Golden Classic Mid-season Championship Invitational will be held at Turpin Speedway July 24-25. Drivers have been invited from Salt Lake City, Vernal, Ely, Nevada, and from other tracks in the western states. Two big days of racing with plenty of thrills and chills are planned. Roger Carter No. 13, Provo, came within four tenths of a second of tieing the track record rec-ord Friday night. He had fast time for the day with 24.4 seconds. sec-onds. 24.0 was set by John Frampton No. 20, American Fork, near the end of the 1968 season. The trophy queen, Ralynn Elder, Springville, presented trophies to Jack Dawson No. 16, Mapleton, for the C Class and John Deuel, No. 36, San-taquin, San-taquin, B Class trophy dash winner. The first C Class heat race was won by Elmo Lee No. 9 of Lehi, with Steve Colledge, No. 26, American Fork, second and Butch Elder in car No. 11, Springville, third. Steve Colledge Col-ledge is a new driver with a brand new car. He was a mechanic me-chanic on No. 27, but said he wanted to see what it was like out there on the track for himself. The second C Class heat race was won by Lewis Stewart, No. 50, Provo. Lewis is an old driver with a new car. No. 16, Jack Dawson, finished second and Roger Carter No. 13, took thrid place. The B Class heat race had Jim Norman in his Union 76 car in first place with George Merlin, Granger, No. 6, second. |
