Show Scout reports on trip An interesting letter arrived at the Herald this week from Steven Bartholomew, who was in attendance at the Seventh National Scout Jamboree at Farragut Park, Idaho. He said the trip to the Jamboree Jam-boree was an exciting one, made by jet. Among the side trips taken was one to Seattle, Wash, and another was the steamboat ride to Victoria. They were also privileged to tour Puget Sound Naval Base, and the site of the fair in Seattle. Among outstanding events were campfires at which Marion Mar-ion D. Hanks and Jesse Owens talked. The Council also presented pre-sented a golden spike replica to Dwight Thompson, jamboree jambo-ree chairman; Alden Barber, national chief scouter; Ervin Fiest, president of Boy Scouts of America. Also steel paper weights were presented to Walter Whidden. Executive. Swimming, boating, canoe- ing, gun safety, archery, and many other activities have been enjoyed by more than 35,000 Scouts in attendance, the Springville Scout reported. He noted also that his troop (27) had an Elder Smith and Hanks as dinner guests. Steven reported that everyone every-one had really enjoyed the Brotherhood Bro-therhood of Scouting at the jamboree, which featured the theme, "Building to Serve." Steven is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Bartholomew. |
