Show Geneva begins work on new shear line Production began this week at U. S. Steel's Geneva Works on the new heavy gage shear line that enables the plant to produce longer and wider cut lengths of sheet and plate than any mill west of Chicago. Alex Walker, Jr, district sales manager, said that start-up of the new facility marks a significant sig-nificant step in Geneva's battle to compete in the western steel market by broadening its product pro-duct range. The new heavy-gage shear line, he said, is one of the largest several new installations installa-tions made at the mill in recent years. Heavy-gage shear line products pro-ducts will include cut lengths of sheet and plate upwards from seven gage hot rolled sheets to one-half inch plate in widths ranging from a minimum mini-mum of 23 inches to a maximum maxi-mum of 82 inches, and lengths from 48 inches to 488 inches. Mr. Walker said that in addition ad-dition to the availability of longer and wider cut lengths of sheet and plate, the new line will give customers a product of superior flatness and better sur- superior flatness and better surfaces sur-faces with more precise width and gage control. The heavy gage shear line sheet and plate products are important to fabricators making mak-ing a wide variety of finished steel products. |
