JL ..... gsFSPtW' , Champ Allen 'Business Man of the Week' Champ Allen, owner-manager of Allen's Drive-In Cleaners, Clean-ers, is a hard working business man who firmly believes in competition and education, in supporting his adopted home town,and giving of his energies to worthwhile projects of the Chamber of Commerce in which he serves as a director, and other civic organizations such as the Kiwanis Club. He came to Springville in 1946 and opened his first dry cleaning business in the old Dr. John Anderson Hospital building on South Main. The fact that there was already a firmly-established dry cleaner in town didn't cool his enthusiasm enthus-iasm in his new business venture. ven-ture. His competitor proved to be helpful and encouraging. Today To-day they are still friends. Champ was born in Virgin, Utah, and was raised on a farm in Antimony. He attended schools in Garfield County and graduated from Circleville High School. A gifted musician, he played the saxaphone in a dance band for over 20 years and covered most of southern Utah. He married Avis Burr of Marysvale in 1936. His first experience in the business area was in the trucking truck-ing field. He managed to buy three trucks which he kept busy carrying produce and coal over the southern part of the state and into Arizona. Champ knows the value' of education and is serving as education ed-ucation chairman of the Chamber. Cham-ber. The Aliens' enthusiasm for a good education has influenced influ-enced their four children's lives. Two are college gradaut.es, one is in his second year and the fourth attended one semester at BYU before leaving for Taiwan, Republic of China, to serve an LDS Mission. Two others also served missions. |
