Show Mapleton liewi Mrs. Blake Everett A meeting of parents of boys who wish to play Little League Baseball this summer was held in the town hall last week. Darryl Hutchings was in charge and the group was organized or-ganized for the season. During the evening, Loris Diamond, president of the Jaycees presented pre-sented the group with a check for 25 dollars to help get equipment equip-ment for the club. Mrs. Loeen Whiting was recently re-cently appointed secretary of the auxiliary association of the Utah Association of Soil and Water Conservation. She was appointed by Mrs. Marian Sor- enson of Palmyra who is the state president. They attended a zone 3 meeting in Price Wednesday March 15. An auxiliary for the Timpan-ogos Timpan-ogos District was recently organized or-ganized with Mrs. Niel Whiting Whit-ing as president; Mrs. John Gillman, Orem, vice president; Mrs. LaMar Crandall, Springville, Spring-ville, secretary; Mrs. LeRoy T. Holdaway, Vineyard and Mrs. Herchell Clinger, Lake View, directors. The husbands of these ladies are directors in the association. The purpose of the auxiliary is to assist the men in information or programs in school, civic or church groups; to distribute any educational material, radio programs or information in-formation on soil stewardship week in May. It was noted by this organization that United States is the only country in the world where people can buy their food for 19 of their income. The percentage is much higher in all other countries. Mr. and Mrs. Glade Hales and family of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ne-vada, are spending the Easter vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Diamond and with other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Quarn-burg Quarn-burg (Fae Curtis) and family are home after spending several sev-eral years in Hawaii where he was with the armed services. They are making their home in Spanish Fork for the present time, but Mr. Quarenburg will be a Navy Recruiter, and he does not know just where he will be stationed later on. Mrs. Quarnburg is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Curtis. Members of Mapleton Jaycees Jay-cees attending the past quar terly conference in Salt Lake were president, Loris Diamond, Jesse Warren, Paul Dibble, Kent Lee and Wayne Brian. The Jaycee creed was read by Loris Diamond. For anyone who might be interested in joining the Jaycee organization the creed is as follows: We believe: be-lieve: that faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life, that the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations, that economic justice jus-tice can best be won by free men through free enterprise, that government should be of laws rather than of men, that earth's greatest treasure lies in human personality, and that service to humanity is the best work of life. Mrs. Grace Bennett left Monday Mon-day for Halfway, Oregon, to visit Mr. and Mrs. William Shaw (Kathleen) who are parents par-ents of a baby boy born March 18. This is their third child. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bennett are parents of a baby girl born March 1. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davies are visiting with friends and relatives in California this week. Mapleton Jaycees recently held their sweetheart banquet at Sil's Grotto in Provo. The meeting was called to order by Roger Hutchings who introduced introduc-ed Wayne Brian as master of ceremonies. The main speaker for the evening was Craig Nicholsen of Provo. During the evening the spark plug and red chip awards were given to Roger Ro-ger Hutchings, Jess Warren, Frank Carnesecca Jr., Paul Dibble and Loris Diamond. A white chip award was also given giv-en to Paul Dibble. Paul Dibble's color group was in charge of arrangements for the party. Eighteen couples were present Warren Davidson who is teaching tea-ching school in southern California, Calif-ornia, is visiting with his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Davidson, Da-vidson, this week. It is Easter vacation in California. They are expecting their son, Richard, Rich-ard, later in the week. Richard is completing work for his doctorate doc-torate degree at UCLA. |
