Show Summit reached in government spending spree It took about a half-century (1902-1952) for total government govern-ment (Federal, state and local) spending to rise from $1 billion to almost $100 billion. But the next $100 billion advance ad-vance in total government spending to $203 billion, to be exact, points out Tax Foundation, Foun-dation, Inc., was accomplished in 13 fiscal years. In the period between fiscal 1952 and 1965, total government govern-ment spending per American rose from $643 to $1,068. Federal Fed-eral spending alone on a per capita basis rose from $461 to $671, while state-local governments govern-ments pending per capita rose from $182 to $391. Taxes collected by all government gov-ernment in fiscal 1964-65 amounted to $145 billion while indebetdness of all government came to $417 billion. Middle age has compensation.
