Show Letter to the editor Payson seeks to retain school shops The following was submitted for publication in the Spring-ville Spring-ville Herald this week and which according to an accompanying accom-panying note, is to be delivered to the school board meeting Monday night, with signatures. AN OPEN LETTER TO THE NEBO SCHOOL BOARD WE, the citizens of Payson, Spring Lake, Santaquin, Goshen, Go-shen, Genola, Elbrta, Salem and Benjamin, are writing this letter to voice our disapproval of the decision of the Board to the building of the Bus and Maintenance Shops in Spanish Fork. WE oppose the construction of the shops in Spanish Fork for the following reasons: 1. This shop has been Pay-son's Pay-son's part of the school district's dis-trict's economy and should remain re-main in Payson, since the school office and othr facilities are located in Spanish Fork. 2. Money available for construction con-struction should be used for the building of the two new high schools one in Payson and one in Springville before any money is. diverted for the construction of a shop maintenance main-tenance building or new administration admin-istration office building until un-til after these two high schools are completed. 3. Items considered by the Board as economy measures resulting re-sulting from central servicing and central maintenance do not show a true picture when more carefully analyzed. (Under (Un-der the board's proposal all buses would be driven to Spanish Span-ish Fork for gasoline and servicing. ser-vicing. This alone would result in extra cost of $400 to $600 per month which would be far in excess of the per gallon savings resulting from bulk purchase of gasoline. In addi tion, the board would be required re-quired to hire a service man and pay the bus drivers extra time and mileage for the time involved) . 4. WE agree that a new shop maintenance building is needed. If it is built in Pay-son, Pay-son, near the proposed high school, the school district owns enough property for the building. build-ing. If it is built in Spanish Fork, more land will have to be purchased. WE urge your careful reconsideration recon-sideration of this matter and invite in-vite you to hold a public meeting, meet-ing, open to all taxpayers in the Nebo School District, to further discuss this matter with you. The idea of central warehousing is 30 years behind time in modern commercial planning, because direct-to-con-sumer distribution eliminates duplicate handling of merchandise. merchan-dise.
