Show Department criticizes cut in wages At a recent meeting of the General Health division of the City-County Health Dept., dissatisfaction dis-satisfaction was expressed, "in view of rising taxes and other costs," regarding a ten percent per-cent overall cut made in salaries salar-ies by the board of health of Utah County. It was the consensus con-sensus of those present that there is no actual financial; need for the cut. To substantiate their claim, officials of the city-county health organization, submitted a lengthy explanation to the press, which may be summed up in the following paragraph, ! taken from the release: "The budget for the General, Health Division of the health I department for 1965 was cal- culated very carefully and as' closely as possible. We figured! however, that we would have a cushion of about $1500 to carry! us through the year. Contrary to reports that we are already I in financial difficulties, we are within our budget for the first i quarter of 1965 in that we, were allowed 537,670.34 and, have spent $37,272.63 and ourj prospects for the remainder of' the year will be better as we I go along, because our fixed j expenses drop some and we will be getting an additional $2,000 from birth and death certificates due to a state raise from one dollar to two dollars for issuing these certificates. We have been able to function j on this budget, as stated, by! not replacing a sanitarian whoj left us last year and by eliminating elimi-nating the services of a full-time full-time deputy registrar in vital statistics, as well as by keeping keep-ing our general health expenses expens-es to a minimum. Make good use of the availability avail-ability of garden fresh tomatoes toma-toes this summer and for a delicious salad combine cottage cot-tage cheese, chives and celery. Make 4 slices in tomatoes with sharp knife but do not cut all the way through. Fill slices with cottage cheese mixture; place on lettuce and garnish with whole anchovies. |
