Show Student wins state honors in DE contest Lee Ann Bartholomew, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee B. Bartholomew of Mapleton, took first place with her merchandise mer-chandise manuel at the first Distributive Education Convention Con-vention in Salt Lake City, Friday. Fri-day. It was written on the subject of thread. Other students attending from Springville High School, and competing in the various contests, were Pat Stewart, Mary Beals in window display judging; Douglas Miller, Allan Young, advertising layout; Dennis .Lisonbee, Connie Neal, spot advertising; Lee Ann Bartholomew, Bar-tholomew, Mary Gonzales, job interview; Anna Lee Watts, Eldon Hjorth, chapter display. Besides Miss Bartholomew, Anna Lee Watts and Dennis Lisonbee, entered merchandise manuels. The D. E. class at the high school is taught by Eldon Reese, who points out that since 30 or 40 percent of graduate grad-uate students follow distributive distribu-tive occupations, such as retailing, re-tailing, buying, selling and marketing, D. E. classes and clubs are expected to increase rapidly in the state. He advised ad-vised also that students should be encouraged to enroll in this expanding field. Randall King, son of Mrs. Anne Jean King is home from the Spanish Fork Hospital, where he underwent major surgery April 13. Vern Beardall is confined to the Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, where he underwent under-went back surgery last week. He expects to be confined to the hospital sometime.
