County's tardy with audit PAROWAN - Iron County is one of the five counties in the state that is tardy in submitting its required annual audits and won't get local sales tax collections or road fund allocations until it does. According to County Auditor Dennis Lowder, this is the first year that the county has had a problem in getting its audit in on time. He said that the audit just isn't complete, but by later in the week they should have it to send in. He guesses that one reason for the audit being late is that the independent auditor, Worth Grim-shaw, Grim-shaw, got a late start on the audit. However, Lowder says that some problems couia have slown the process down. He estimated that the audit should be completed com-pleted within this week and said that being tardy with the audit will not keep the county from getting the sales tax and road fund allocation monies. The audit was supposed to be in on June 30, and, according to State Auditor W. Val Oveson, as of July 1, local sales tax remittances to the counties and their shares of road funds will be withheld until audits come in, figures which could run into the tens of thousands of dollars depending on when the audits finally come in he said. |
