Show Cedar Products expansion groundbreaking conducted CEDAR CITY -Groundbreaking ceremonies were conducted con-ducted Monday for a 96,000 square foot major expansion project of the Cedar City Products Company plant located' on U-56 just north of the Cedar City airport. Plant Manager Jack Shreves made the announcement an-nouncement Monday at ceremonies when the expansion project was explained. Shreves said the addition will be comprised of warehousing units and will be used for a parts manufacturing department. depart-ment. According to Production Manager Weldon Bettick, with the expansion project and the .addition of the parts manufacturing department, depart-ment, "we expect it to save us money on freight." He said that it will save between 1,500 and 1,600 miles of freigting. The expansion, which will nearly double the plant's size, will attach to the existing 112,000 square foot facility. About 60,000 sqare feet will be used for warehousing, and 36,000 sqare feet will be devoted to the parts manufacturing manufac-turing department. "This expansion lets us expand our operations and further commit ourselves to the Cedar City community. We're very proud of the hard work and dedication of our employees. Through their efforts our plant has become a very efficient operation," Shreves said when making the announcement. an-nouncement. Current plant employment em-ployment totals about 75 full-time people. When the expansion is completed, com-pleted, Shreves says that he plans to add about 25 people initially and as many as 40 within a few years. The general contractor for the expansion is Carter Enterprises, Inc., and the architect is John Rowley. Rowley also designed and coordinated coor-dinated construction of the existing facility. Both are located in Cedar City. The original facility was built in 1974 and had 40 employees. Cedar City Products Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, Inc., Kansas City, Mo., manufactures and distributes product display cases to Hallmark and Ambassador Am-bassador retailers throughout the western part of the United States. Bittick added that the groundbreaking day was a big day for them. He said, "it's Christmas for us here on July 12." |
