Show T-Ball booms inCC By LYNETTE SAWYER Record Reporter No longer does the young baseball player have to wait until Little League action to become involved in competition. T-ball has blossomed in Cedar City. Things are rapidly getting better lor the T-ball T-ball participant. According Ac-cording to Randy Cowan, Cedar Recreation Committee, there will be two new parks lor T-ballers T-ballers next season. The lieldsat the High School, where T-ball is now being played, will be chalked and measured and the area around each base will be manicured and cleared. The popular sport is coming into its own. There is a vast dif-lerence dif-lerence between Little League and T-ball. Perhaps most noticeable is the sie difference between players, lack of complete uniforms and the "T" at home plate. There are also many more girls in the T-bail leagues than in the Little Leagues. The most wonderful 'thing about a T-baller , the one thing you won't lind in most other leagues from Little League to the majors, is that these kids still play ball just for fun. That's right, they play for sheer enjoyment. It's not even unusual lor a player to run up alter a game and say; "Coach, Coach, did we win? In a T-b'all game, everyone on the team gets the opportunity to play in every game. A maximum of six runs may be scored each inning, in-ning, so the games are usually quite fast paced. With the black rubber "T" at home plate to hit Irom, a player only gets one strike. The opposing team's pitcher is not eliminated however, he merely becomes completely com-pletely a defensive player, just another lielder, so to speak. A T-ball participant's skills aren't perfect, and these games are anything but clean and precise. However these kids are just beginners and it's exciting to see them develop their skills and progress. 1'erhaps because the games are so unpredictable, un-predictable, they are so entertaining, and even humorous. T-ball is a marvelous world of energy, learning and for many youngsters, their first important taste of competition. . Of course, there are those who take their baseball very seriously. At least one participant on every team has his mind set on a one-way trip to the major leagues. Hut. with the condition the major leagues are in, lie's lucky to be right where he is! |
