Show SUSC philosophy prof publishes scholarly work A scholarly book about the life and works of A m e r i c a n author Theodore Winthrop will be published this summer by Eugene T. Woolf, professor of philosophy and literature at Southern Utah State College. "Theodore Winthrop: Portrait of an American Author" will be published by the University Press of America in Washington, D.C. Winthrop was a descendent of Governor John Winthrop of bullet in the Civil War. "The author became widely read only after his death and is best known for the travel book 'The Canoe and the Saddle' and for his novel 'John Brent,'" Dr. Woolf said. "Winthrop is considered one of the best of the minor American authors." In dealing with Winthrop Win-throp as a writer, Dr. Woolf examines the beliefs and practices of history, literature, art, philosophy and religion as they helped shape Eugene T. Woolf Massachusetts and Governor John Winthrop of Connecticut, and is renorted to have been the first Northern officer killed by a Confederate |
