Show Beavers, Tigers, Start Grid Season with Friday Games The Beaver Beavers open the county grid wars Friday afternoon aft-ernoon in a 2 p. m. fracas with the Richfield High eleven, and the Milford Tigers make it a full day for football fans when thes engage the strong Juab High squad from Nephi in a 7:30 j p. m. under-the-lighls contest the same evening. Beaver has a very light squad, with not too much experience, exper-ience, and they will depend on backiield speed and deception decep-tion for their wins, at least in the early part cf the season. The Lindsas- - coached boys should take the measure of Richfield, a shool that has only been featuring 'football a few s ears, but the lads from Sevier, although comparatively green, have the ability to toss an, upset into any coach's plans. The Beavers are in unusually good shape ph'sically for this early in the season, and Lindsay will have them on edge and driving Friday afternoon. It's a different story at Milford, Mil-ford, and Coach Lee Pettey will send a squad against Juab with four regrlars and one "first-line" "first-line" sub on the bench, and he has several other cripples. The boss suffered injuries in practice prac-tice sessions, and rather than chance more serious injury, Coach Pettey has benched them 'for the Juab game. Sitting it out will be Kenny Munk with a kidney bruise; Ronald Simpkins wth a dislo- j cated hip (may be out for the season); Dennis Belliston, Arden Fowls and Erroll Bird with knee injuries; David Bown (doubtful starter) with a bad ankle, and Bobby Allen and Richard Banks (doubtful) with respiratory ailments. ail-ments. In region football for '57, the prognosticators have Cedar City on top; Dixie and Hurricane Hurri-cane as hurdles for any second-place second-place aspirants; Parowan always al-ways a threat, and Milford and Beaver fighting for the cellar, with newcomer Kanab an unknown, un-known, but not expected to give anyone much trouble. he Beaver County News has it tabbed a little different. The Cedar City Redmen, because be-cause of the size of their school, their strength and depth in reserves, re-serves, should win the district. The Milord Tigers have the strength and ability barring serious injuries to key men (they have ne depth) to place jsecond. The Beavers, wih their speed in the backfield and the type of competition Beaver has become noted for, could win every game including their fracas with the Redmen. After that take your pick I Parowan, Dixie, Hurricane but don't sell Kanab short, |
