Show Fenley Murder Trial Gets Underway With Selection of Jury Insanity Plea Entered By Shay In Fight For Life of Fenley Additional jurors had to be called today in order to fill the group of 32 from which final selection will be made to hear the murder trial case of Vac Monroe Fenley, who is charged by the State with the murder- of Royal S. Hunt. An additional 10 jurors were called, making a total of S3 from which a jury of 12, with one alternate will be selected. Hunt died Monday night, Nov. 24, from bullet wounds which the State will attempt to prove were inflicted in-flicted by Fenley,. whom Hunt had befriended. Fenley was approached Tuesday morning, Nov. 25th near Gun-lock Gun-lock and is said to have confessed to arresting officers that he killed kill-ed Hunt. At the preliminary hearing hear-ing held before District Court Judge Will L. Hoyt on Dec. 1, he entered a plea of "not guilty", and trial was then set by Judge Hoyt for- Jan. 6th. The case is being prosecuted by District Attorney At-torney E. J. Pickett, assisted by County Attorney Andrew Pace. Attorney Ruben J. Shay of Cedar City will defend Fenley. He was appointed for the defense by Judge Hoyt, when Fenley stated that he had no defense attorney. Attorney Shay has indicated that he will enter an insanity plea as the defense for Fenley and will attempt to prove that Fenley was not mentally balanced at the time that he is said to have committed the murder. Two doctors have been appointed by Judge Hoyt to examine Fenley and give their opinion as to his sanity. These doctors are Dr. A. W. McGregor and Dr. Garland Pace of Provo. It is the opinion of those following follow-ing the case that the attorneys will agree on' the 32 today from which the final selection will be made so that it is possible the trial will get underway Friday. |
