Show Commodities Allocation Boards To Be Set Up In Counties of State In every county in Utah and in many localities in the various counties before this week ends, the Utah State Council of Defense De-fense will have set up commodities commodi-ties allocation boards composed of local citizens, Gus P. Backman, vice chairman of the council announced an-nounced this week in Salt Lake City. "Commodities allocation boards" is a high-sounding name, but it means nothing more than boards set up to ration any commodities in which the nation faces a shortage. short-age. Already, automobile tires are ready for rationing and undoubtedly undoubt-edly other commodities will be placed under rationing in the future. fu-ture. There will be no tires sold under un-der any circumstances until Jan. 5, when the rationing plan goes into effect, approved by the local board, is presented for purchase. The rationing board will have to hold strictly to definite rules of distribution, outlined by the government, gov-ernment, which will be in their hands this week. In case of refusal re-fusal of tires, the citizen has a (Continued on page three) Co. Allocations Board . (Continued from first page) right of appeal to the county board, then to the state. Few Tires Available So few tires will be available that there will be no possibility of boards showing any favoritism in their distribution. Every tire available will be necessary for the protection of the health, the normal nor-mal business and the safety of all people of the community. Although complete rules have not yet been sent out, there will be no tires available for pleasure automobiles, for traveling salesmen, sales-men, taxis and many other classifications. classi-fications. The nation will ration each month to Utah, a certain number of tires, for its needs. State rationing ra-tioning director, Gus Back-man, Back-man, and the state board, consisting con-sisting of W. E. Ryberg, Dil-worth Dil-worth S. Woolley and Rabbi Samuel Sam-uel H. Gordon, will then assign each county its proper share. The county board will assign each locality lo-cality its amount of tires. Certificates Certifi-cates for that number and no more even in case of emergency, can be issued. With the certificates, certifi-cates, the individual or business firm, may buy any brand of tire from any dealer. Dealers must be able to produce a certificate, approved by the board, for every tire taken off his shelves. Worn tires must be turned in at the purchase of new tires to prevent any hoarding. Only the regular number of spares will be allowed. The new law does not cover re-treaded, re-treaded, recapped or second-hand tires which may, for the present, be bought or sold with impunity. County Rationing Board The county tire rationing board of Washington county consists of: W. O. Bentley, chairman; James Judd, Henry Graff and E. Eric Snow. All county Council of Defense chairmen in the state have been requested by Gov. Herbert B. Maw to attend an all-day conference confer-ence in Salt Lake City on Jan. 5th, to complete coordination of state council of defense activities. In addition, he has invited all members of the thirteen division committees of the state council. Experts in all lines of defense in the western states will be in Salt Lake City for the conference, confer-ence, most important, and perhaps per-haps the last to be held in the state for many months. Following Follow-ing a general meeting to be addressed ad-dressed by those in charge of coordinating county work with state work, and state work with regional and national defense, committeemen and workers will meet with departmental experts in their own particular branch of defense work. |
