Show Beautification Seen As Move To Bolster Morale Church Leaders Visit Stakes To Urge Beautification Program "Bolster the morale of the citizens citi-zens by cleaning, renovating and beautifying churches, public buildings build-ings and homes," is the message brought to St. George stake over Tuesday and Wednesday by George W. Ashton, architect, James M. Kirkham, beautification expert, C. Leland Davey, head of the L. D. S. church building custodians, and Irving T. Nelson, church landscape land-scape gardner. The visitors met with church and business people of St. George stake Tuesday evening eve-ning in the South ward chapel for a discussion. Wednesday evening eve-ning they gave an exhibition of colored slides, showing what can be done with problems of beautification, beau-tification, and stated it is the desire of the church to make St. George, Zion Park and Kanab stakes projects for early season consideration, since these are the three gateways in and out of the state. St. George is also to receive re-ceive special consideration. Visit Stake Buildings Wednesday was devoted to visiting visit-ing the 'church buildings in this city and in the wards throughout through-out the stake as far as weather and roads permitted. Cleaning, renovating, lighting and exterior beautification through painting and landscaping is the theme of their lectures, and their services are to be available for any community com-munity who will use them. Irving Irv-ing T. Nelson expressed especial appreciation for the hearty and unselfish cooperation given by the people of this area in the recent improvement of the St. George Temple grounds, and also called attention to the city street improvements im-provements being made here. C. Leland Davey said cooperation cooper-ation will accomplish more than money, where public interest is lacking; that regular upkeep is better than occasional and expensive expen-sive improvements and repairs; that cleanliness, orderliness and sanitation and providing of comfortable com-fortable and desirable environment environ-ment are the best producers of good will and economy. Expressions were requested from representative members of the audience, including Lawrence Wadsworth, president of the local Chamber of Commerce; Joseph T. Atkin Jr., of the city council; (Continued on page five) Beautification Move (Continued from first page) K. D.
