Show w U. S. Has Many War Necessities In Reserve !Most people anticipated that there would be a gasoline shortage, but were rather surprised at the extreme measures meas-ures that have been put into effect on tires and tubes. In regard to the American petroleum industry, experts point out that the industry is producing 4,100,000 barrels of crude oil a day. It is now pointing toward a 5,000,000 a day production which is more than the whole world produced or consumed less than five years go. Should the U. S. ever experience a gasoline shortage, short-age, such as Europe faces today, our scientists can tap a huge store of synthetic fuel. There is, however, no present danger of exhausting this country's tremendous reserves of petroleum above and below the ground. More important is a new gasoline which has just been perfected in American laboratories. By the use of this new gasoline it is said that an American warplane could travel faster than it is now possible to travel. It is much more powerful than 100-octane gasoline, which -was hailed as a great improvement over ordinary fuel. At the same time, a process for the production of larger quantities of high octane aviation fuel from less material has been revealed. |
