Hilton Jarvis and daughter, Caroline Ruth, returned Sunday from a six-weeks' visit with relatives in Grantsville. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Jarvis' sister, Miss Norma Higley, who will attend the Woodward high school. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fitcher were St. George visitors over the last week end with their mother, Mrs. Lena Pectol. Miss Dica Perkins was a St. George visitor over last Friday and Saturday. Ben Abbott motored up from Las Vegas Tuesday evening, bringing bring-ing Carl L. Moss to attend the marriage of his daughter, Loa, to Marden Brown. -K. J!. w 'it-Mrs. 'it-Mrs. A. H. Lindorf, son Ralph, and daughters, Mary and Diane, who have been visiting with Miss Lena Nelson for ten days returned today (Thursday) to Salt Lake City where they will remain for a short time before going on to Pocatello, Ida., to join Mr. Lindorf, Lind-orf, who is located there with the Union Pacific as station agent. -K- Mrs. Tina Macfarlane left on the bus early Wednesday for Salt Lake City, where she will visit her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Bleak. Shipley Snow visited briefly in St. George one day last week en-route en-route to Santa Ana, Calif., where he will enter the Navy air corps. He is a son of Mrs. Wanda Snow of Provo and grandson of Mrs. Hannah Snow of this city. X Releases from the McGregor hospital over the past week include in-clude Mrs. Lloyd Lowe and baby girl; Mrs. Willard Milne and son; and Mrs. George Pace and baby boy. O. Miss Mary Lou Lund of Las Vegas was a week end guest of her aunt, Mrs. Jennie M. Brown. The War Production board has ruled that motorists must turn in old storage batteries when buying buy-ing new ones. X Reports from Salt Lake City state that Mrs. Ann C. J. Milne, mother of Jos. J. Milne of this city is gradually improving from her recent serious illness. Mr. and Mrs. Lerin Porter of Ocean Park, Calif., have been here the past week visiting relatives rela-tives and friends and 'taking in' the Utah Parks. Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Cottam and son, Stephen, arrived Sunday evening eve-ning to visit for the week at the home of the doctor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Cottam. On September Sep-tember 17, Dr. Cottam will report re-port as one of a unit of 25 M. D. volunteers from St. Luke's hospital, hos-pital, Chicago, for service in the Army air corps at Buckley Field, Colorado. Since returning to Utah they have been visiting in Salt Lake City with Mrs. Cottam's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Melville, Mel-ville, and in Springville with Dr. and Mrs. G. B. Orton. Capt. William P. Nye, who has been visiting his cousin, Mrs. Ray Whipple and her husband, and his grandmother, Mrs. V. A. Armstrong Arm-strong for the past few days left Monday for his command at Camp Elliot, San Diego, Calif. Free swim for all married women from two 'till three on Wednesday, Sept. 16th. Miss Clara Sorenson, who is employed at a defense plant in Santa Monica, visited relatives and friends in St. George, Monday over Wednesday, enroute to Ord-erville Ord-erville for a week's vacation with her family. ; Mrs. Charles Barnum had as guests over last week, her children, child-ren, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Leavitt of Ogden, and her mother, Mrs. James Hughes of Mesquite. Miss Theresa Beckstrand, former form-er Dixie college student, arrived last Saturday evening to visit over Wednesday at the home of Mabel Jarvis with whom she resided while attending school here. She has since completed courses at the L. D. S. Business college and is employed with Beneficial Life Insurance company, in Salt Lake City. -V. -H- -A- -A- Principal Vernon Worthen of the Elementary school returned last Thursday evening from Luning, Nev., where he has been working all summer at the magnesium fields. He reports most interestingly inter-estingly on the operations of this large mining area, and the great amount of labor being used in mining and refining the ores for shipment to the magnesium plant at Las Vegas. -V. The returned to Bremmerton Brem-merton last Friday. www Mrs. Nettie K. Morris was advised ad-vised of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sevy in Richfield Rich-field Saturday. The baby's mother is the former Donna Lou Morris. This is Mrs. Morris' first grandchild. grand-child. Editor and Mrs. Edgar R. Simpson left Monday for Los Angeles An-geles and Pasadena, Calif., where they will remain for several weeks while Mr. Simpson is recuperating from his recent illness. w" -JS- w Mrs. Gwendolyn Rogers and three sons returned Friday from a three-weeks' visit with relatives in Long Beach, Calif. Mrs. Roy Harline and daughters, daugh-ters, Roberta and Lois Ann, and son, Hardy, returned last Saturday Satur-day morning to their home in Los Angeles, after two months vacationing vaca-tioning in St. George and Salt Lake City. They were guests while here of Mrs. Harline's parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hardy. In Salt Lake City they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Beck-stead, Beck-stead, Mrs. Louise Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hardy. Prior to their departure, Mrs. Mattie Empey entertained at a family dinner Friday evening in- their honor. Mrs. Harold Vance drove with them to Las Vegas, where thev were met by Mr. Harline. Miss Irene Beacham underwent surgery at the local hospital on Sept ia Henry Cannon arrived Wednesday Wednes-day to'visit his father, David H. Cannon Jr. Mrs. Gordon Empey took the Thursday morning bus to Las Vegas to visit with hor husband for several days. Miss Maurine Whipple returned last Saturday evening from New York City and other eastern points where she has spent the past four months in connection with hor writing and in visiting friends. Due to an accident. Miss Whipple is confined to her bed for the present, but reports she has had a wonderful trip. |
