Show Lions 8th Annual Rodeo Closes With Sponsors Well Satisfied The St. George Lions pulled down the curtains at midnight Saturday, Satur-day, Sept. 5th, on their Eighth Annual Rodeo satisfied that their efforts to provide a round of whilosome entertainment for the people of this vicinity was well worth the while, and hoping that when all the costs are paid that they will come out a little to the good. Even though some phases of the three-day affair fell a little short of expectations, they are happy that they put the program over and thank all those who cooperated co-operated in making their program pro-gram a success. Rodeo Enjoyed By Many Of one thing they are certain. (Continued on page eight) Lions Rodeo Ends (Continued from first page) The local people had the privilege privi-lege of witnessing the performance perform-ance of some of the best cowboys cow-boys in the rodeo game, and seeing see-ing them ride to glory on some of the toughest bucking broncs and Brahma cattle that ever entered en-tered a rodeo arena. There was also a fine lot of expert calf and steer roping and bulldoging. This phase of the Round-up was as good a rodeo program as could be found anywhere, they are confident, con-fident, and as a body the Lions feel they have no occasion to regret re-gret having carried their annual program to completion. None of the parades were as large or as spectacular as on other years, but those who did come out were to be congratulated congratu-lated for their efforts. The children's child-ren's parade on the second day, and the Beauty parade on the closing night was worth while, though not as extensive as on other years. This phase of the program alone seemed to lack enthusiasm. Opening day parade winners Las Vegas Chamber or Commerce, first place; Lindau Foremaster, with his cow country float, took second; and St. George Lions, third. Prizes To Each Entry Every entry received a prize in the second day's parade, which featured "The Children's Hour". However, one group received special spe-cial mention. That was the Art Dahl children as Little Red Riding Hood, the Hunter and the Wolf, though many other groups were excellent. The Beauty parade on the closing clos-ing day brought the judges' first-place first-place decision to the Bank of St. George with Marie Higbee; second sec-ond to Dixie Wasatch Oil company, com-pany, with Emily Brown; and third to Cascades Swimming Pool of Washington, featuring Ouida Williams. Judges were all disinterested transients whose names are not known locally. |
