Show Elementary School Starts Monday, Sept. 7 With Enrolment of 482 The Elementary school went into full swing Monday morning with 482 children enrolling, which is a high count, considering there are still a number not yet registered because of recuperating from ton-silectomies, ton-silectomies, or from recent attacks of whooping cough and other such ailments which have managed to hang along during the entire summer sum-mer vacation. When these come in they should bring the enrolment enrol-ment well above 500, thinks Vernon Ver-non W o r t h e n , principal. The school, he feels, is set for one of its best years. Kindergarten Next Week Although it is expected the Kindergarten will be added perhaps per-haps next week, the enrolment as it is now is exclusive of that possibility, pos-sibility, which should materially add to the present count. Replacement teachers for the present year include Miss Ida Jol-ley Jol-ley of Washington and Mrs. Anthony An-thony Pace. Plans are made for beginning again with clean slates on the War Bond and Stamp purchase records. Purchases made through I last year will be temporarily forgotten for-gotten and the various rooms will I begin their records as of Sept. 1st. and keep check on each room as the school progresses. Teachers and parents will cooperate in curbing curb-ing wasteful spending on the part of school children and in establishing estab-lishing with them the habit of (Continued on page eight) Elementary Starts (Continued from first page) saving and helping in the war effort. Insurance Plan Attention is also being focused on the Elementary school's health and accident insurance plan, which j on the very opening day of school proved its worth whileness. The small fee of 60 cents per pupil gives them access to ten recreational recre-ational programs, including shows, and provides a fund for emergency emerg-ency care in case of accident or injury while the children are in school or on the playground. One lad on the opening day of school with struck by a heavy swing and his wound required stitching at the hospital. His insurance was paid on entrance and this took care of his expense less than four hours later. Many accidents occur during the year, and -this fund proves invaluable in this way, as well as in providing a round of wholesome recreational activity. |
