Show Hurricane CCC Camp First Established In St. George By 200 Boys From East In 1935 By JOHN S. SHIPLEY Company Commander On Nov. 1, 1935, a group of 200 boys came from the East to St. George, Utah and using the St. George CCC camp as headquarters began work of all kind for the good of the peopley of southwestern southwest-ern Utah. Today there are none of the original members of Company 2558 left but the work is being carried on by their successors and their field of operations has been enlarged. From the Welcome Springs pipe line at Castle Cliffs, Utah to fence lines in Panguitch and Kanab, Utah, these boys have put up fence lines, corrals, springs, and roads. Every day for the last five and a half years the people have seen our boys coming and going from their work and sometimes have seen them in town. Now the boys want to reverse the process and ; have the people come and see them. Saturday, April 5, 1941 is "open house" day at Camp G-160, Hurricane, Hur-ricane, Utah. Everyone who can make it is cordially invited to come up and join in the activities of the day. The members of this company want to show the camp to every one to show the camp schedule will be followed. Camp inspection in the afternoon with a band concert on the parade grounds and a dance for everyone every-one in the high school at Hurricane Hurri-cane at 9:00 p.'m. All the above is at no cost to the visitors. We hope that we will have a great crowd to show around that will make the boys feel that they are appreciated for the work they are doing. |
