Show Car Thieves Nabbed Here by State Patrolman Porter Wrecking of Car Leads To Investigation And Arrest by Officer Robert A. 'Wright, 19, of Pasa-' dena and Hobart H. Littlefield Jr., j 18, of Burbank, Calif., are being ' held in the County Jail under a . five-day sentence for speeding, j Following their completion of this sentence they will be released to .a United States marshall and taken to Ogden for trial in the Federal court under a charge of car stealing. They were picked up for questioning at Santa Clara Sunday morning at 9. a. m., by State Patrolman L. A. Porter following fol-lowing an investigation by him of the car they had wrecked on the hill curve just beyond Santa Clara. Patrolman Porter was notified by Rulon Snow that the men were acting suspiciously. When questioned by Porter it was found that the boys could not prove their ownership to the car and he immediately started an investigation investiga-tion as to its ownership. Reports coming back from Pasadena, indicated indi-cated that they had gone to the Peteler Motor company, Oldsmo-bile Oldsmo-bile dealers, and had represented themselves as prospective purchasers purchas-ers of a car. They had been given the privilege of driving the car for 30 minutes, but had failed to return at that time. Pick Up Local People Proof of the excessive speed with which the men were driving driv-ing was seen in the position of the wrecked car. It was also substantiated sub-stantiated by Mason Barton, Clara Sorenson and Nan Esplin,' who reported re-ported to Porter that they had been out riding and had burned out a bearing in their car. They had hailed Wright and Littlefield for a ride into town and had been picked up by them. Mr. Barton states that the men were driving driv-ing at an excessive speed at all times and hit the curve at a speed in excess of 90 miles an hour. Although Al-though the car was wrecked, none of the passengers were seriously injured. The accident happened at 1:30 a. m. |
