Show NEWS of the COUNTY SEAT Mrs. Lena Pectol returned early last week to Los Angeles with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Pectol and children, who had been her guests for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Wiiden Tweedie and children of Las Vegas were visiting in St. George Saturday with Mrs. Lottie R. Carter and Miss Ellen Carter. Mrs. Ted Simmons, the former Margaret Mitchell, arrived last week from Oakland, Calif., for an extended visit with her mother Mrs. Vera Mitchell. Mrs. Vivian Spencer, Dixie college col-lege librarian, arrived in St. George last Saturday from Logan and accompanied by Mrs. Bertha McGregor and daughter, Zola went to San Francisco for a three-week's three-week's vacation. Mrs. Allen Ruesch and baby left last week for Los Angeles, where they will remain while Pvt. Ruesch, who is in military service is in that vicinity. Home over the week end from Salt Lake City to visit his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Hafen, was their son, Harold. Also a guest of the Hafens over the week end, was Miss Luell Peterson Pet-erson of St. Paul, Minn., a former L. D. S. missionary of the Texas district. This is her first visit to St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Ira H. Adair, daughter Wilma and son, Webster, all of Orderville, and another daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Brinkerhoff, of Glendale, Utah, spent Monday in St. George visiting and on business. 0- .'f. ."J. Mrs. LeGrand Pendleton and children left Monday for Nephi to "join Mr. Pendleton, who has defense employment in that area. Rulon A. Snow, who is at present pres-ent employed in Provo, accompanied accom-panied by his sister, Mrs. Olive S. Reeve, spent part of last week in St. George visiting relatives; Mr. Snow with his family and Mrs. Reeve at the home of her mother, Mrs. Hannah N. Snow. Mrs. Louie H. Wells of Logan-dale, Logan-dale, spent Saturday in St. George visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schmutz and baby. Mrs. "Frank Hawkes, Miss Irma Stevens, and Miss Georgia Hou-ghard Hou-ghard of Salt Lake City were visiting vis-iting and on business in St. George Tuesday. Mrs. Hawkes visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Starr, and Mrs. Houghard with her aunt, Mrs. Laura Pulsipher. Norma Leavitt, daughter of Bishop and Mrs. Melvin Leavitt of Alamo, Nev., and the Misses Gwen and Ina Reber, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Reber of Mesquite, are guests this week of their cousin, Willa Brooks at her home on Mt. Hope. Miss Clara Hamblin, granddaughter grand-daughter of Jacob Hamblin is here from Mesa, Ariz., for an indefinite in-definite stay in the interest of the improvement of the old Jacob Hamblin home at Santa Clara. While here she will be the guest of Postmaster and Mrs. William Brooks. Supt. Milton E. Moody left on Monday for Salt Lake City on business and to receive medical care. Mr. and Mrs. LeGrande Spils-bury Spils-bury and daughter, visited last week in St. George with Mr. and Mrs. George H. Seegmiller. Jackie Wilson, aged 12, of Mt. Carmel, is recovering in the local hospital from injuries received when a horse kicked him in the abdomen. Mrs. William Osborne of Price, was visiting two -days last week with relatives in St. George, a guest while here of her aunt, Miss Orpha Hunt. Visiting this week with Mrs. Nettie K. Morris are her mother, Mrs. R. C. Knell of Newcastle, and her daughter, Mrs. Bud Kunz of Cedar City. Mrs. Richard Morris, Mor-ris, the former LaRue Kunz, visited vis-ited with Mrs. Morris last Thursday, Thurs-day, enroute to Mare Island, Calif., to see her husband, who is Recovering Re-covering from pneumonia at the military hospital there, where he was serving as pharmacists' mate. Mr. and Mrs. Maiben Ashby and children returned recently from a ten-day vacation with relatives in northern Utah, visiting Mr. Ash-by's Ash-by's parents at Leamington, and going on to Salt Lake City, where a family social was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney A. Ashby, honoring the youngest brother of the family, Ensign Carl Ashby, who had a short stopover stop-over during a transfer furlough from the East to the West Coast. Lieut, and Mrs. J. Mark Holmes and two daughters, Dorothy and Peggy Jo, arrived early Wednesday Wednes-day morning from Burbank, Calif., where they have been for the past several weeks. Lieut. Holmes took the 7 a. m., bus out from St. George Wednesday, enroute to Camp Davis, N. C, where he has been transferred to officers' training train-ing school in connection with his military service. While he is absent, ab-sent, Mrs. Holmes and their daughters daugh-ters will remain with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Jarvis for two months. ..t. ... i Miss Lillian Riding left Sunday morning for California, where she will spend her vacation. Mrs. Hugh McKay, the former Pearl- Andrus, left St. George Sunday Sun-day for Salt Lake City, from where she took a United Airliner Monday for New Hartford, Conn., to join Mr. McKay, who is employed em-ployed there as field man for Pratt.-Whitney company. Mrs. Tony Pace spent last week in Cedar City visiting her mother, Mrs. L e o n a Hunter, and her brother, Don L. Hunter, who is leaving shortly for military induction. induc-tion. Don is the third of Mrs. Hunter's sons to enter the service. Captain and Mrs. Calvert Andrus An-drus and baby, of Camp Young, Indio, Calif., and their sister, Mrs. A. J. Beard and small daughter of Indio, arrived late last Saturday Sat-urday night to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Andrus. Capt. Andrus returned early Monday morning, the others to remain for an extended visit. Mrs. William B. Hansen of Salt Lake City, the former Arvilla Pace, arrived Tuesday to visit a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Israel Pace, before leaving for Littlerock, Ark., where she will join her husband, Pyt. Hansen who is stationed there in military training. Mrs. Robert Edwards, who has spent the past several months at the home of her parents, Mayor and Mrs. D. C. Watson, left this (Thursday) morning for San Francisco, Fran-cisco, where she will join her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Lee J. Esplin and family left Tuesday evening for their ranch at Cane Beds for an extended stay. Mrs. Thomas Cottam and sons of Logandale, were St. George business visitors over Saturday. Victor G. Sagers and J. H. Vickers of Salt Lake City spent the week end in St. George on business. Both men are representatives repre-sentatives of the State Auditor's office. Lawrence Reichmann left Monday Mon-day morning for Salt Lake City to spend the week visiting his grandparents. Mrs. Herman Larkin and children child-ren left Monday morning for Wil-lard, Wil-lard, Utah, where she will visit with her mother for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. J. Milne are on the Coast where Mrs. Milne is receiving medical attention. Lloyd Henry, the two-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Miles, is reported making rapid improvement at the local hospital hos-pital following surgery on Monday for telescope bowel. Larry, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butcher returned home Wednesday from the hospital, hos-pital, where he underwent surgery for telescope bowel, June 16. He is reported recovering rapidly, ot. ok Mr. and Mrs. Bill Smith and small son, who have been visiting for a week with Mr. and Mrs. Leo G. Smith and family, returned re-turned to their home in Salt Lake City. Surgery patients at the local hospital during the past week include in-clude Carol Lundberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Lundberg, June 22; Max Reber, Mesquite, June 15; Dilts Workman, June 22; and Mrs. Orval Knight, June 23. 'i$ Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Davies and small son returned to Kanarra last Thursday after visiting in St. George with relatives and attending attend-ing the family dinner at the home of their mother, Mrs. Rosena Blake, honoring O r w i n Gubler, who left last Thursday for military mili-tary induction. The T. C.G.I. T. club members held a social and slumber party Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Esplin, with their daughter, Corrine as hostess. Eight girls- made up this summer sewing circle. |
