Show Names of America's Youth Appear In American Newspapers KEARNS, Utah. American newspapers, news-papers, particularly the weeklies, are printing 50 per cent of the masculine names in the country before the youths reach 21. That disclosure was made recently re-cently during a review of the thousands of questionnaires that have been sent to individual trainees train-ees at the Army air forces basic training center here. The questionnaires ques-tionnaires deal strictly with personal per-sonal history, include this inquiry: "Have you ever figured in a news story?" School news lead in the thousands thou-sands of items listed by the trainees train-ees with sports and standard items, such as accounts of motor car accidents, not far behind. Biggest Big-gest surprise of the survey was the fact that some 25 per cent of the men here innumerable of them Utahns rated news features in their home towns. The survey indicated clearly: 1 America's weekly editors are not under-rating the importance of youth in the news. 2. Their papers are, wisely it would seem, being edited almost as much to entertain the reader as to inform in-form him. |
