Show Instructions Given In Red Cross Work Wesley Nelson Highly Praised for Home Service Work In County By MRS. KOXEY ROMN El-County El-County Red" Cross Chairman Miss Frances Livingston, home service Red Cross field representative representa-tive for the State of Utah, spent three days this week end in the county, giving special instructions in this field of work. Monday evening a meeting of the- chapter and branch chairman, with the home service workers from St. George, Hurricane and Zion Park was held in Hurricane. A lengthy discussion of all phases of the work was carried on with instructions as to the proper way of handling various cases. This was very worthwhile for all who attended. Purpose of Home Service The place of home service is in keeping the home and service men satisfied as to each others welfare as much as possible, and where special attention is needed. To help where necessary with the home or to see that officers are informed concerning special emergencies emerg-encies in the home, when the service men are needed there. Home service Is given in four (Continued on page eight) Red Cross Report (Continued from first page) specific ways. Communication of information service which is assistance through communication between service men and their families, and with inquiries concerning their welfare, when for some reason the family do not hear from them. Reporting service this service is cooperation with the military or naval by obtaining social history his-tory material as needed for medical medi-cal treatment or making reports on home conditions. Claims service is assistance to disabled ex-service men and their dependants and those of deceased service men. Family service this is provided to help service men feel assured that the family at home are in good condition in their absence. The Red Cross is a friend to the man in service and the fathily at home. Dependency discharge, and any other needs are a part of the work of the home service people. Wesley Nelson, Chairman Washington county is fortunate in having Wesley Nelson as chairman chair-man of the home service in the county. He is doing a marvelous piece of work and has some very able assistants. Miss Livingston, after spending a day with Mr. Nelson, checking over his files and case treatment, said, only in Salt Lake and Weber county has she found such efficiency. His file system and case reports were among the best. She could hardly believe that such efficiency was to be found here. We appreciate Mr. Nelson having this interest in the people and their service men. We hope to give the best possible service in this field, which is a growing one and may soon grow into full-time employment for some person. Other workers with Mr. Nelson are: Mrs. Reed Blake, who has had much experience and Don Leavitt, of St. George; also Mrs. Sandberg and Scholzen of Hurricane Hurri-cane and Mrs. DeMffle and Hardy of the Zion Park branch. The officers of the Red Cross feel most fortunate in having these people to carry'on the home service. This is an Important part of the work which must be done well. Mr. Nelson makes a thorough thor-ough study of all changes which come regularly. He gives the cases consideration and efficiency. We appreciate this, as do the people whom he has helped. Correction Last week an error was made in stating the number of women studying the nursing sourse. In Hurricane and Zion Park branches, instead of 30 women, there are more than 130 taking active part. We feel this correction should be made because of the specially fine effort of these ladies. |
