Show Hurricane Takes First In Invitational Track Meet Held There Friday HURRICANE, Utah. With a total of 180 boys participating from 10 senior and junior high schools, Hurricane took first place with 59 points in the 5th Annual An-nual Invitational track meet held here last Friday. Dixie took second sec-ond with 41, and Cedar third, with 39. In the junior meet Cedar romped to an easy first with 63 points followed by Woodward Wood-ward with 37 and Orderville with 26. Eight schools were represented rep-resented in the junior meet. Other schools participating in the senior meet, besides the first-place first-place winners, and the points they scored were as follows: Virgin Valley, 30; Kanab, 21; Beaver, 18; Valley high, 10; Enterprise, 8; Parowan, 2; and Woodward 2. Junior meet: Hurricane, 5; Kanab, 4; Beaver, 4; Las Vegas, 4; and Virgin Valley, 3. In gaining first place Hurricane copped five firsts, five seconds and a considerable number of other places to show considerable all-around strength. Cedar took three firsts with Dixie getting only two, but Dixie showed considerable con-siderable team strength to place her in second place. New records for this meet were set in the low hurdles by Waite of Virgin Valley, with a time of 24 seconds; Heaton of Valley set a new record in the 880 with a time of 2:10.5; Holt of Enterprise broke the mile run record with a time of 2:56; and the Hurricane relay team set a new record of 3:41 in the mile. |
