Show MESQUITE, Nev. Mrs. Daisy L. Reber Reporter There are several of our men in the service who are enjoying leaves and furlough at home now. They are: Fay Leavitt and Archie Leavitt, who have just completed their boot training at Farragut, Ida.; Ernest Burgess, who is in the air corps and Arthur Strasser and Cleave Barnum, who have just been stationed in Louisiana. Delias Barnum leaves for induction in-duction into the Army on April 28. Lester Barnum, Orlin Frehner, Harley Leavitt, Archie Hughes and Stewart Pulsipher leave on April 27th to take their physical examinations, prior to induction in the Army. Mrs. James Pulsipher was operated oper-ated on for appendicitis at Las Vegas on April 18. Joseph Wilson of Mesquite is sponsoring an oratorical contest to be held in the school each year. The winner's name each year will be engraved on a plaque to be put in the school building. The first contest was held Monday night at Bunkerville with six students stu-dents participating. Miss Clareen Reber, won first place and $20 in silver; Herman Adams, second prize and $10; and Miss Marie Hardy, third prize and $5. Other contestants were Roma Reber, Zella Leavitt and Shirley Adams. Judges were Supt. S. P. Fish, Mrs. Juanita Brooks and Miss Edith Knight. Mrs. Leah Tobler is the speech instructor in the high school. |
