Show Independent Merchants Meet To Discuss Means of Curbing Chain Store Growth At a meeting held Tuesday night at the Liberty hotel, local independent inde-pendent merchants met with state representatives of the Independent Retailers to discuss plans for campaigning in behalf of the law set to control the expansion of chain store corporations in Utah. Sherman Loynd. secretary of the Independent Grocers' association, and George Jefferson, president of the non-profit coporation formed form-ed by Independent Retailers were present and addressed the local group. A local committee was organized organ-ized to help carry the fight in this section. Heading the committee com-mittee were Mayor D. C. Watson, Harold Miles, Val McArthur and Gordon Mathis. General plans for the campaign were discussed and it is expected the committee will proceed to contact the general public shortly. |
