Show President Reports Enrolment At College Is Normal Nearly All Communities Show Increase; More Boys Registered Here With the registration of the first week at the Dixie college nearing completion, the enrolment is almost al-most equal to that of last year for the same period" according to Pres. Glenn E. Snow. Outside of St. George there is an increase in students, but there is a noticeable falling off locally. Nearby counties are well represented, repre-sented, and most of Washington county. The largest increase comes from Enterprise. Although it was expected that the boys would be missing this year, it is the girls who have failed to show up. Whether this is because the job and its extra pay during these times has proved more enticing to the girls than to the boys, or whether the boys are taking every advantage to improve their military status, or whether both are influential is not entirely known. But it is a fact that the war effort is greatly building up the defense courses, both curricular and special. Particularly popular this year are courses in mathematics and in welding, the latter being opened this year to high school students. General registration was completed com-pleted Monday, but additional students stu-dents are being enrolled each day. Classes got underway Tuesday. The initial assembly of the college col-lege year was held Tuesday morning. morn-ing. President Snow was in charge. He introduced the fac-I fac-I ulty and welcomed the students. Jos. W. McAllister led in community com-munity singing, and special musical musi-cal numbers were given by present pres-ent former students. A second assembly as-sembly is being prepared for Friday Fri-day at 11 o'clcok. |
