Show Dixie Coop. Considers Purchase Of Dixie Mart At a special meeting called last Saturday night in the Dixie college auditorium, the members of the Dixie Consumers' cooperative authorized their board of directors to present an offer to Z.C.M.I. for the stock of the Dixie Mart and the building and grounds. The members heard William Whitehead, White-head, the store manager, explain that the gross monthly business had increased from $100 in July of 1936 to $4,000 in July of this year. "One of the outstanding fea-(Continued fea-(Continued on page ten) Cooperative Meeting (Continued from page one) tures of this," said Mr. Whitehead, White-head, "was the fact that the store's goods were turned four times during the month making it necessary to only carry a stock valued at $1,000, whereas a privately owned business would have had to carry from $1,500 to 52,000 worth of stock to have done the same business. As long as our membership continues to be faithful, we can continue to show such an unusual business turn-over." The group was particularly anxious to buy the property since, as members expressed- it, they were in need of larger facilities and were planning to enter the dry goods field in the near future. Willingness to accept various brands of goods rather than the one that the customer might have been using, thereby limiting the varities of stock carried, low overhead, over-head, and buying faithfulness were reasons given by speakers for the pheniminal growth of the organization. |
