Show Bishop Harold Snow Appointed St. George Temple President The appointment of Bishop Harold S. Snow of the St. George South Ward as Temple President was made by Pres. Heber J. Grant at a special meeting of the Stake Presidency and High Council on Sunday. Pres. George F. Whitehead, who has served faithfully in this position posi-tion since the death of Pres. Edward H. Snow on July 18, 1932, has been released. During the time that President Snow held this position President Whitehead served ser-ved as acting president. Temple President (Continued from first page) of the Church to keep no person in such positions as Temple President, Presi-dent, Mission President, High Councilman, etc. over a certain number of years. Harold Stafford Snow was born in St. George July 8, 1897, a son of Erastus Beaman and Annie Stafford Snow. He gained his early-education early-education at the Woodward school and Dixie college in St. George and later attended the Brigham Vnnncr TTnivprsitv at Provo and the University of Utah at Salt Lake City. He was married in the St. George Temple September 6, 1918 to Miss Lydia Ellen Hopkins of Glendale and to this union nine children were born, eight of whom are living. He taught school that winter at Glendale and the next year at Washington. He has taught for the past seventeen years in St. George. He has served as Justice of the Peace for seven years and during the first five of these also held the position of City Justice. In the religious field he served as First assistant in the Sunday School to David R. Forsha for three years and after Mr. Forscha moved away Mr. Snow served as superintendent for six years in the East Ward. When the wards were divided in October 1925 and the South Ward was organized with Frank G. Miles as Bishop he was called as a counselor. He served in this position until Bishop Miles was taken seriously ill and released, and then was set apart as Bishop on January 5, 1931. Under his supervision the fine South Ward Chapel has been built and will be dedicated at the close of this year. |
