Show Boy Scout Week Fittingly Observed By Scouts Of Snow Canyon District Boy Scout anniversary week was ushered into St. George Sunday Sun-day evening with a Court of Honor program at the Tabernacle, and followed by a Soparovan at Ihe gymnasium Tuesday night. Miss Alice Lowe reviewed the scout play, "Kid's Awakening", as the feature of the Court of Honor program. Thirty scouts received advancement awards, and a splendid splen-did musical program was given. The outstanding award of t he-evening he-evening was that of the Scoutmaster's Scout-master's Key to George T. Thompson. Thomp-son. Mr. Thompson was one o three to receive the award at the council meeting held in Provo, the previous evening, and is the second scout leader of this district t receive the award. Another important im-portant award was that of the council gold star pennant to W. W. Awards were marl" to the winning patrols in ten events, and to the troop with the highest percentage of registered scouts participating plus the best discipline of the evening. The Washington troop won the bead handicraft set given for the latter distinction. The events in which the patrols competed com-peted were judging, O'Grady, scout pace, Paul Revere race, first aid, signaling, scout law, knot tying, verbal relay and scavaenger hunt. Eleven patrols won "A" grade rating, as follows: Bear, Eagle and Beaver of St. George South ward troop: Milk Cow and Stag of the East ward troop: Dragon, Eagle and Wolf of the West ward troop: Seagull and Panther of Washington: Washing-ton: and Gray Wolf of Leeds. The Hawk patrol of the East ward and the Little Abner and Flying Dutchmen patrols of Santa Clara barely missed receiving the "A" rating. Five troops of the six has one hundred per cent of all registered scouts present. One feature of the contest was the many ties. Th" highest scoring patrol of th" evening was the Milk Cow patrol of the Kast ward, with Alpine Al-pine Prince as patrol leader. Scouting is being featured every day this week by the various troops. Miss Alice Lowe repeated "Kid's Awakening" at the junior high school Thursday morning, and Miss Ruby Savage- reviewed the play, "A Scout's Honor", at the college assembly Wednesday. |
