These meetings were held at the instigation of the local chamber of commerce directors, who had worked out a proposed schedule which had as its object a ' later mailing time than would still get the mail to Salt Lake and Los Angeles at the same time as the mail now arrives there. Mr. Danvers recently met in St. George with representatives from Hurricane, Enterprise and local men relative to the proposal submitted sub-mitted by the St. George chamber, with the result that Mr. Danvers suggested a schedule that would have the mail leave Cedar City at approximately 9:30 a.m., come to St. George via Leeds and Washington, Wash-ington, go from here to Hurricane, La Verkin, Toquerville and back through the other towns in the east end of the county and then on to Kanab. The mail coming from Kanab would reverse this route leaving there in the morning at approximately 12, arrive in Hurricane at 3, St. George 4 and Cedar City at 6:30 p.m. The mail from the north would leave Cedar at 9:30 and arrive here at approximately ap-proximately 11:30, get to Hurri- cane at 12:30 and Kanab at 5 p.m. j This mail that would leave here at 4 p.m. for Cedar would catch I (Continued on page five) Mail Changes (Continued from first page) the same train as the mail that now leaves at 9 a.m. Letters mailed mail-ed on this schedule would be delivered de-livered in Salt Lake on the next morning delivery in the business district. Moapa Schedule On the south bound mail it is proposed by Mr. Danvers that this mail leave Moapa in the morning at approximately 8:30 a.m. and arrive here at 11:30. This mail will then return south at 2:30 in the afternoon and get to Moapa at 5:30 p.m. making it possible for Los Angeles mail to be delivered in the business district the following follow-ing morning. This would also catch the same train north as the mail going through Cedar City. Compliments Group Mr. Danvers complimented local chamber of commerce officials and Postmaster William Brooks for the fine attitude that they had and for the work that they had put in in attempting to work out a more satisfactory schedule. He told local members that so far as he knew now these proposed schedules would be the ones that he would recommend to the postal department. If they are adopted, they will go into effect next July at which time bids will be opened for the carrying of mail. Wilford McArthur was the chairman in charge of this work for the local chamber of commerce. com-merce. He was assisted by R. M. Reber, president and Gordon Whtichoad. secretary. The Hurricane Hurri-cane chamber of commerce and civic leaders also took an active part in securing the proposed changes in schedule. The Hurricane Hurri-cane group gave preference to a proposed schedule which brought the mail through Hurricane to St. George with Hurricane as a terminal point for the mail to Kanab. This schedule did not receive re-ceive the approval of Mr. Danvers. however, and the Hurricane group agreed to the other as better than the present way of handling the mail. |
