Show Short Creek, Ariz. Mrs. I. V. CarlinK Importer People around Short Creek were forced to wear over-coats over the week-end. due to a heavy rain mixed with snow which fell here Sunday. The range was becoming seriously seri-ously dry and should benefit from the rain. Closing school exercises were held here on the nights of May 18 and 19. Tuesday night the lower grades under the supervision of their teacher, Mrs. Elizabeth Lauritzen Laur-itzen presented a song and an address ad-dress of welcome and a short play. The upper grades, presented several sev-eral skits, three choruses by the girls, and a short play. The girls were assisted in a rose drill by girls from the lower grades. Graduating exercises were held Wednesday night. Those graduating gradu-ating were: Lorana Fish, Hazel Barlow, Lorna Johnson, Patricia Lauritzen, Howard Fish, Marvin Black and Joseph Jessop. Dr. West of the Dixie college gave the address to the graduates. They were presented with their diplomas diplo-mas and a card of congratulation by their teacher and principal of the school, Mrs. Verda Lauritzen. After the exercises, a dance was held. A large crowd was in attendance at-tendance among whom were visitors visit-ors from St. George, Cane Beds, and Pipe Valley. J. McLloyd Lauitzen, a foreman at the CCC camp at Pipe Springs spent the week-end with his family fam-ily here. Dawn Lauitzen has made two business trips to Los Angeles in the past week. He was accompanied accompan-ied by his brother, Reid Lauitzen on his first trip and took his family fam-ily with him on the last trip. Mesdames Elizabeth and Verda Lauitzen entertained all the school children with a trip to Zion Park, May 20. They were served a picnic pic-nic and ice cream and visited all the points of interest in the park. I. W. Carling and family have moved to New Harmony for the summer. Roy Johnson and family also Millard Black and family have moved to the Big Bend country in Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Millard Black are parents of a daughter born May 15. J. E. Fish of Los Angeles visited with home folks over the weekend. week-end. He was accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. R. E. Bardwell and small son who will make a short visit. Mr. Fish returned home Monday morning. J. T. Spencer made a business trip to Cedar City on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. McDougal of Modena, Mo-dena, Utah are visiting their brother, bro-ther, Grant Wormley. |
