Show Developments At Dixie Reported By President Smith JExtra Curricular Events Proved Outstanding With "D" Day, Arts Festival, Football, Opera as Leaders "This year has opened up many new fields and enlarged others", stated Pres. B. Glen Smith on giving giv-ing a report of the outstanding events of the school year. "Next year these events will be enlarged and others will be opened up tj the students attending college and high school", he said. President Smith explained that this year has been the first year for Dixie college under the 6-4-4 plan. "She will be followed next year by the junior college at Eph-raim, Eph-raim, and the new junior college being built at Price. B. A. C. is also seriously considering tiie plan. Westminster college has already been organized under this plan", he said. Extra curricular events which have been particularly outstanding this year are as follows: "D" Day and Founders' Day were combined into one event, Dixie Day, which proved very successful. suc-cessful. This year was the opening of the Fine Arts Festival at Dixie in which a greater appreciation for music, literature, and art has been stressed. The field of arf has particularly par-ticularly been opened up this year under the leadership of Ralph Huntsman, director of art. "Football was introduced into the extra curricular activities of the college last year but this year was really the starting of football foot-ball here in a big way. "The Beggar Student", college opera, was indeed an outstanding performance of the school this year. The opera was under the leadership of Joseph W. "Next year will see the completion comple-tion of the Mechanic Arts building build-ing which is now under construction construc-tion by the PWA, and the building build-ing of an athletic field. The site has already been purchased for the building of the athletic field. It will be constructed this summer as a WPA project. An L. D. S. institute building will also be completed com-pleted this summer to be used in connection with the work of the college." |
