Show Alton Oviatt, Returned Missionary, Gives Report Alton Oviatt, who returned recently re-cently from three years spent in France, Germany and Switzerland, reports having had a most profitable profit-able experience both as missionary and in attending the University of Strausberg. Leaving here June 17, 1935, he labored first in Nuremburg district Germany for three months and was then transferred to Thun and Bern, Switzerland, where he was located eight months. In both places he found many people who have relatives in America and they were interested in .knowing of this country. From Bern he went back to Mayence Am Rhein, Germany, to stay six months, and another three months in other parts of that region, a total of 20 months of active missionary labor. Following plans made before leaving the United States, he then went to Aslace Lorraine in France, where for eight months he attended attend-ed the University of Strausburg. Here also, he continued his missionary mis-sionary labors, baptising two. It was here his mother was to have joined him for a tour of Europe before his return. This, however, was prevented by the motor accident acci-dent which resulted in her death. But, in compliance with her repeated re-peated requests during conscious moments of her illness, he remained remain-ed to complete his studies. Then with a missionary companion, George Hal Haylor, of Salt Lake City, he visited the 14 nations of I Europe now open to tours. This he says, was a most happy conclusion con-clusion to his missionary labors. Speaking of his experiences, he says the 28 months of his absence were with one exception, (his mother's death) filled with great happiness and satisfaction. Referring Refer-ring to his associations, Mr. Oviatt says he never hopes to find a more kindly, consistant people than those among whom he labored, especially in Germany, where he left many good friends. |
