Show Motorcycle Crashes Into Side Of Pick-up; Two Injured A near fatal accident occured in St. George at 2 p.m. Wednesday. J. H. Bowdcn of Cedar City, aged 45. driving a Chevrolet pickup, slowed down, but did not come to a full stop at the intersection of 300 West and 1st North streets. Traveling west at fair speed on a borrowed motorcycle, and without with-out a driver's license was Otto Christman, aged 21, of Mt. Trumbull, Trum-bull, accompanied by Miss Viola Blake of St. George. Miss Blake was on the machine in front of Mr. Christman when the motor jammed into the side of the pickup. pick-up. Both the pickup and the motorcycle motor-cycle were damaged. 1 The driver of the pickup was practically uninjured but the couple on the motorcycle were both seriously hurt. According to Dr. L. W. McGregor, who took care of the accident victims at the hospital, Miss Blake, has a badly broken pelvis and numerous cuts and bruises, while Mr. Christman received a shattered left elbow, bruises and lacerations. In the doctor's opinion, however, both patients will recover. To those discussing this near fatal accident, it is another situation situa-tion that offers more of those "Ifs" that are the constant menace to public safety on the highways. "If" the stop sign had been observed, ob-served, the accident might not have happened, and "If" the motorcyclist had not driven without with-out a license, he would at least have been clear of the law. |
