Show New Mail Schedules Proving Okeh Says Postmaster Brooks After two months experience under the new mail schedule, Postmaster William Brooks reports re-ports it to be giving "better service ser-vice than the old, and feels the change made to be beneficial to all concerned. "No further change is anticipated at this time, and lacking lack-ing new developments, we can now adapt ourselves to the one in service", ser-vice", declares Postmaster Brooks. Mr. Brooks would like to call the attention of the public to the difference between "Mail Closing" and "Mail Leaving" time. It is necessary to have mail in the letter let-ter and package drops from a half hour to an hour before the mail is scheduled to leave. The last pick-up out of drops is made at "Mail Closing" time, which is indicated in-dicated on the schedule posted above the letter drop, as well as on those printed by the News. A number of people have been disappointed disap-pointed at having "Missed" the mail due to a misunderstanding of the above. Another wrong impression concerns con-cerns the air mail service. Mail traveling by air should leave St. Gesrge via Santa Clara and Moapa, as mail picked up at 1:30 j p.m. arrives over this route as much as 24 fours before air mail leaving via Cedar City. Ordinary! mail traveling to or beyond Las Vegas saves from 12 to 24 hours in time if mailed in the local office before 1:30 p.m. As there is no (Continued on page five) Postoff ice Story (Continued rrom first page) mail dispatched over this route on Sunday, the above differences do not occur on that day. "The Postoffice department wishes to cooperate with its patrons pat-rons in every possible way. It is the desire of the postal employees to help you get your letters and packages in at the last possible moment when necessary. But, the U. S. Postal Service expects all mail drivers to leave on schedule. Therefore, the department must coordinate your wish for a late mailing with the necessity to have the mail ready to leave as per the schedule. With these two things in mind postal employees will endeavor to give satisfaction to all concerned", said Mr. Brooks. |
