Show Women Growing Tall; Lose Weight . Survey Shows American Girl Thinner Nowadays. New York. The American woman wom-an Is getting taller. Few of them today to-day aren't taller than their mothers. While this change In their stature has taken place, however, no distinct dis-tinct American type has developed, cither among males or females. Unification Uni-fication of the United States has failed to submerge sectional types. This Is shown by new studies of anthropologists and sociologists Just completed. There are still "Western" and "Southern" and "Eastern" types, and even colleges have distinct types, It was learned by Dr. Harold S. Dlehl of the University of Minnesota, Minne-sota, whose researches show that the American girl Is growing taller and thinner. In his survey, Doctor Diehl found that Stanford university univer-sity coeds are the tallest In the country, Smith college students the heaviest, and those at Texas university uni-versity the slightest. This finding brought forth a del- uge of comment from sociologists all over the country. Prof. Henry Falrchlld of New York university said: "If the present rate of Immigration Immigra-tion decreases, the United States will become a tight, homogeneous nation. Thus a curious, Indirect by-, product of current unemployment nnd quota problems Is a purer American Amer-ican race. I "Sectional types, however, remain.: The Northwestern states, Oregonj and California, are noted for tall; people. I've noticed for years that women are getting taller and taller.' I know of few adult women toda who are not taller than their mothers. moth-ers. As physical stature depends,' within limits, upon environment, it; would be a wonder If they didn't get; tall, what with Increased knowledge of proper nutriment and exercise. ' "Increased stature is the evidence1 of better human development There, Is no danger, however, of evolving: a race of giants. The whole study of genetics seems to show that every; form varies within limits. While the, present race shows a trend toward a certain height, it will stop there-" |
