Show DIXIE COLLEGE Snow Junior college .met the Dixie Junior college In two friendly friend-ly public-spo.Tklng contests March 0. In the extemporaneous speaking speak-ing contest Snow college was represented by Arthur Neiison who spoke on the subject, "Defrosting "De-frosting Frozen Bank Deposits;" Duane Frandsen, "New Internationalism;" Interna-tionalism;" and Ellis Rasmussen "What Hope for the Jobless." Dixie was represented by Karl Wilkinson who spoke on "Fallacies "Fal-lacies of the NRA ; " Ina Blake "Consumers' Tomorrow;" and Alma Cottam, "Patent Medicines and the Law." Karl Wilkinson was announced the winner by the judges. In a non-decision debate each school debated both sides of thf question, "Resolved that the Powers Pow-ers of the President of the United States should be Substantially Increased as a 'Settled Policy." Duane Frandsen and Moyle Ras-mussen Ras-mussen upheld the affirmative and Virgil Yergerson and Arthu Neilson, negative, from Snow College. Col-lege. Mary Morris and Ernest Lee from Dixie upheld the affirmative, affirm-ative, and Rulon Orton and Ed win DeMille, negative. Miss Fern Young, coach of debating at Snow College, accompanied ac-companied the students from Ephraln. The Dixie "junior college "D" day is to be fittingly observed tomorrow. In the forenoon thr letter will be renovated with ? new coat of whitewash. At noon the various classes will participate partici-pate in informal activities on the hill. Lunch will be served at this time. No activities have been plannet' for the afternoon, but the eveninr program includes the lighting oi the "D", followed by the "D" day dance. Miss Loretta Murdock of Mil-ford Mil-ford was elected "D" queen a; a result of the election held a' the school this week. Assisting her as maids of honor in the "D" dance festivities tomorrow night will be Ora Mae Frermer of Littlefield, Arizona;Rema Clove of Enterprise; Florence Judd of LaVerkin; and Milba Paxman, Ruth Sullivan and Claudie Hafen of St. George. The Vogue beauty parlor is presenting to the queen a shampoo, finger-wave, manicure and facial and to the maids of honor a finger-wave. The Dixie Junior college band concert is being given this evening even-ing in the Tabernacle. C. student body en tertained in assembly last Thursday. Thurs-day. A splendid musical program pro-gram was given, featuring the glee club and the string trio Professors Manning and Halvor-sen Halvor-sen accompanied the group here Tuesday's assembly program wa-' given by the drama class, under the direction of Miss Lenorr Thurston. A classical moderr comedy was presented by thf class. The group was asslse'' by two dancing numbers, ' ac companied by the college orches tra, and two local solos by . Mrs Ruth Clark Hafen. Assemblies for the near futur' are planned as follows: March 15 Dramatic Art class, and short play under the drectlon of Mr. Baldwin of the Zion Park CCC 5S StSK! 'a(HlH :H'S Is-XWfc&iiSrW? camp; March 20 Freshman clas: program; March 22 Future Farmers Far-mers of America installation. The Dixie furnished programr to the nearby CCC camps Wednesday. Wed-nesday. The college has one more series of such programs scheduled The Hurricane camp is making arrangements to bring in a five-act five-act play in the near future. President B. Glen Smith at tended a special meeting of college col-lege presidents at the state school office last Thursday. Instruction' were received from the state board in regard to next year's activities Plans are now being made tc make up the budget for next year. While in Salt Lake, President Smith also attended the convention conven-tion of superintendents and secondary sec-ondary school principals. He reports re-ports a very profitable convention The school play was presented in Bunkerville Monday night. A large crowd was in attendance and expressed appreciation as to the standard of the production. An honorary musical fraternity of national scope is to be organized organ-ized at the school this week. It is known as the Delta Pai Alpha. This comes as a distinct honor to our college, as a recognition of the type of music work done here. |
