Show UTAH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MM OFJCUBB Salt Lake Organization Calls Meeting of State Commercial Commer-cial Bodies for Next Tuesday Tues-day to Form State Body Over the signature of Gus Back-man, Back-man, secretary of the Salt Lake chamber of commerce, the various commercial clubs of Utah have been requested to attend a meeting meet-ing at the Commercial club build-in build-in Salt Lake, on Tuesday, February Feb-ruary 17. According to the call the purpose of this meeting is to take the necessary steps looking look-ing toward the organization of a state chamber of commerce. E. J. Pickett and C. H. Bigelow have been in Salt Lake for the past week aiding in the promotion promo-tion and development of this convention. con-vention. Mr. Pickett, in his report to the directors here Wednesday, fully outlined the purposes and expectation ex-pectation of the group from southern south-ern Utah who have been holding monthly meetings since last summer sum-mer in order that the doctrine of cooperation between the commercial commer-cial clubs may become an actuality. actu-ality. According to Mr. Pickett, it is hoped that a state chamber of commerce organized along similar lines to those that have proven successful in other states and having hav-ing for its purpose the unification of the advertising of the state's resources and attractions, will be consummated next week. The official of-ficial family of the organization will be representatives from every ev-ery section of the state. Much duplication of effort will be eliminated elim-inated and by grouping the sectional sec-tional advertising much of economic econom-ic importance to the whole state will undoubtedly result. The organizers of this chamber cham-ber hope that a state appropriation appropria-tion will be made for its support. Hitherto the burden of state-wide advertising has been borne altogether alto-gether by Salt Lake, a few corporate cor-porate interests and the various highway associations. Unquestionably, Unquestion-ably, a Utah state chamber of commerce, having for its primal purposes, systematic advertising . of the state and the maintenance of bureaus of information in the various centers to which we export our products, will go far toward solving the problem of marketing. Following a round table discussion discus-sion by the directors it was unanimously unan-imously decided that they should be represented at Salt Lake next Tuesday. Mr. Pickett and Mr. Bigelow were chosen and it is x-pected x-pected that the Rotary club also will send delegates. Various matters of routine business busi-ness having to do with a membership mem-bership campaign, arrangements for luncheons, etc., were reported by Secretary Jos. S. Snow. President Presi-dent Jos. K. Nicholes elaborated on the bills pending that have to do with the junior colleges in the state and the delegates to the chamber of commerce convention will also endeavor to advance the work of the legislators who believe be-lieve that we cannot dispense with any of our schools and least of all those such as Dixie College. |
