Show GIFTS OF BOOKS HELP LOCAL LIBRARY; MANY VALUABLEBOOKSAuDED By Roxey S. Romney County Librarian Great interest has been taken in the County Library the last few months, and many splendid gifts in books and some money have been contributed. I take this opportunity of expressing ex-pressing apprecia, tion, through the County News, to these public spirited contributors. In September, the Athena club gave ten dollars and twenty-five cents to the children's department for the purchase of books for general circulation, "That the children might have better books, and not books torn to shreds." The books were immediately purchased pur-chased and since that time have been enjojyed by hundreds of children. Thanks to the Athena club. Fred Schultz, at the same time gave twenty-five dollars to add to his already splendid contribution, "The Sybil Schultz corner" which contains over one hundred and fifty dollars worth of books, purchased pur-chased by Mr. Schultz and contributed con-tributed in Sybil's name. This is one of our finest contributions and Mr. Schultz hopes each year to add to this collection, making it a continuous gift. Mrs. Vivian Woodbury gave a total of seventy-five- volumes, most of these classics. Classics are always good and many of these were much needed. Some were duplicates, which still could be used to advantage. In January 1935, Dr. A. J. Hutchings made one of our finest gifts in books, one hundred and two volumes from his personal library, were put as he said, where they could be used by many. They were as wollows: One set "Kipling's works" ten volumes beautifully bound. One set "The World Great Events, ten volumes published by Colliers. The Parent Teacher organization organiza-tion made an excellent contribution contribu-tion in "The Progressive Reference Refer-ence Encylopedia" in ten volumes vol-umes beautifully illustrated. Also a complete set of Stevensons Works was received from them. These are valuable contributions in our reference department. Mrs. Rose Andrus contributed both in books and cash. She gave the set "Public School Methods," Meth-ods," in four volumes, especially helpful to teachers and trainers. Mrs. Andrus also has sent in a twenty dollar check to be used for purchase Of books for the children's department. Both gifts are appreciated. Miss Lydia Hall, of Washington Washing-ton added to our poetry department depart-ment the book "Utah Sings," a collection of poems containing poems by Utah authors, several of Miss Hall's poems are in it. Mrs. Mabel Williamson, of Leeds, now deceased, donated one set "Outline of Knowledge, twenty twen-ty volumes. These were in good condition. The Business and Professional Women's club have contributed ten dollars for the purchase of books on Vocational work for women and their achievements, lives, etc. This article is published in appreciation ap-preciation of the public spirited people who are interested in making mak-ing our library bigger and better, in adding to your welfare and mine. They have given gifts of value and each of them deserve our thanks. No matter what his rank or position may be the lover of books is the richest and happiest of the children of men. |
