Show UP&L files for rate reduction Utah Power It Light Co. Friday filed an application w ith the Utah Public Service Ser-vice Commission asking for a $10,371,000 reduction in rates through Oct. 31, 193, effective for service on and after May 1, l'J83. If approved by the commission, it would mean a reduction of about three percent or $1 .08 per month to the typical Utah residential u.ser using some 500 kilowatt hours per month. In its application, the company explained ex-plained the reduction in rates is made possible because it was able to reduce fuel and other energy costs below earlier projections. This , was due to the availability of low cost hydro electric power from the Northwest enabling the utility to sell part of its own higher cost generating capacity to other power systems and low er coal production costs in company-owned mines. The company periodically reviews with the PSC in its cost of service estimates with respect to fuel and purchase pur-chase power. (Energy Balancing Account.) Ac-count.) These items are considered separately from the costs of operation usually considered during a general rate case. |
