Wind, cold dominate weather Wind reaching as high as 104 mph along the Wasatch Front Monday, caused caus-ed incredible destruction. The L'intah Basin was considerably luckier, although w inds did reach as high as 45 mph. That is a long shot from the 90 to loo mph winds that were common in Davis and Weber Counties. Large trees were uprooted and billboards and power lines were bent double. Thousands of people w ere still w ithout power Tuesday Tues-day afternoon. Officials with the Vernal office of the Utah Highway Patrol said actual damage reported to them was very minimal, and the Uintah County Sheriff's Office echoed that report. However, driving driv-ing became no less than hazardous as the wind blew snow across highways and limited visibility drastically. People seemed to deal with the poor conditions very w ell, since no major accidents ac-cidents have been reported. Weather reports say conditions will improve drastically Irom Monday's tragedy, but weather will continue throughout the state, and uncommonly cold w eather w ill persist throughout the week. |
