Show aw The all-state teams were announced in the Salt Lake City daily newspapers and once again the point that appearing in a state tournament helps a hoopster gain a spot on the first and second teams was proven as Uintah and Union High School failed to gain any hoopsters on the all-state all-state teams. Oglala Sioux captured first place in the Tournament of Tribal Champions as they beat the Provo Blazers in two games. The games featured a number of unusual plays. Sonny Brown of the Blazers was charging down the floor toward his basket and he delivered a pass. However, the only problem was that zero teammates were available for the ball to travel to and so it darted out of bounds. A chance for two points at the hoop were wasted by the Provo team. The Provo team made up for the passing pass-ing error with a steal under their own basket. Dee Baxter stole the ball from a Oglala Sioux player under the Provo basket. However, Baxter missed the shot at the hoop, but the ball was recovered by Provo's Sonny Brown, who also missed miss-ed a shot at the basket. Finally Provo scored the two-pointer when George Powless powered the ball through the hoop. A rebound was snared by a member of the Sioux team on a missed shot by the Provo team and a Sioux player was all alone at his team's basket. A long pass was fired by the hoopster, but two points weren't gained as the ball hit the ceiling. |
