" is really starting to : zui around. Banquets much like our . iy.er event held throughout the coun-r. coun-r. r. a'- year contributed towards Ducks -'.ed's national fund-raising effort raised CO million during 1981 -tje. Rjt what's even more important "ix." said Madsen. "is that the na-i na-i nad-raLsmg total must increase -:ur if the North American water- i:;tat race is to be won." s sportsmenconservationists -oes discovered through surveys -ic'.ed forty-five years ago that ' ' percent of North America's Production occurs in Canada. Jed out back in 1937 what holds t;oay. Since Federal duck stamp cannot be spent beyond U.S. ';rs. sportsmen funds earmarked for 'j"l conservation are not getting p.aces where the great percentage of production takes place. But through Ducks L'nlimited's efforts, over S1&4 million has been raised in the U.S. since 1937. And 80 cents out of every one of those dollars has been sent to DU i Canada) to reserv e some 3 million acres of prime habitat emcompassing over 1.900 wetland projects. The only problem in all this is that biologists estimate millions of additional acres of habitat must be reserved in order to stabilize North America's waterfowl water-fowl population. When you consider that habitat today is diminishing due to agricultural and development pressures, and that DU is the only nonprofit conservation conser-vation organization involved in the Canadian Cana-dian waterfowl habitat race, you can begin to see the significance attached to the organization's fund-raising events. Tickets of $24 each include a one-year one-year DU membership and a subscription to the organization's magazine. Call Steve Madsen at 789-1362 for tickets and further details. |
